We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Full Stack Developer with Tech Lead capabilities to join our team on a key new account win operating in the utilities sector. This is not simply a delivery role -  it requires someone who will genuinely embed themselves within our client’s organisation, developing a deep understanding of their industry, their regulatory environment, and their operational pressures.

You will be a confident, solution-oriented technical lead with hands-on delivery responsibilities. You will lead client discussions, scope projects accurately, and support developers across multiple workstreams - from ongoing maintenance and security updates through to medium- and large-scale builds and integrations. Above all, you will bring the credibility and curiosity needed to become a trusted technical partner to a client operating in a highly regulated environment.

About the Role

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the technical direction of projects, solving complex challenges and ensuring best practices are upheld within regulated, enterprise-grade environments.

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, confidently guiding them through issues, options, and solutions —-with sensitivity to the compliance and operational constraints of their sector.

  • Proactively recognize and communicate knowledge gaps, escalating where needed, while promoting a culture of learning within the team.

Responsibilities

Client Embedding & Industry Understanding

  • Invest time in genuinely understanding the client’s business, their regulatory landscape, and the pressures facing their sector.

  • Build credibility with both technical and non-technical stakeholders by speaking the language of the industry, not just the language of technology.

  • Identify how digital capabilities can address real operational or compliance challenges specific to the client’s context.

  • Represent FreelyGive as a long-term strategic partner, not just a supplier.

Client Engagement & Delivery

  • Partner with the Delivery Team to ensure projects run smoothly and align with commercial goals.

  • Support client relationships through clear communication, exceptional service, and sustainable growth.

  • Translate technical detail into clear, client-friendly language particularly for operational stakeholders unfamiliar with software delivery.

Project & Team Support

  • Mentor and support developers across multiple streams, from routine updates to complex project delivery.

  • Ensure security, code quality, and scalability are consistently embedded.

  • Operate effectively in both waterfall and agile (Scrum) environments.

Technical Scope & Stack

  • Backend: Strong expertise in Drupal/PHP, with experience in building and integrating CRM solutions, APIs, and e-commerce platforms.

  • Frontend: Solid skills in modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Vue) and CSS/HTML for responsive, accessible design.

  • Databases & Infrastructure: Experience with MySQL/MariaDB, cloud hosting (AWS, Azure, or similar), CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git).

  • AI & Emerging Tech: Practical exposure to Agentic and Generative AI tooling—not a core requirement, but experience in applying these tools in real-world projects is strongly valued and will become an increasing focus.

  • Industry Products: Knowledge in Acquia products, especially Site Studio an added bonus. 

About You

Technical Expertise

  • Proven full stack developer with strong Drupal experience at the core.

  • Skilled in both backend (PHP, Drupal, API integrations) and frontend (React, Vue, or similar).

  • Strong grounding in system architecture, performance optimization, and security best practices.

  • Comfortable working within environments with elevated compliance, data governance, or audit requirements.

Industry Credibility

  • You don’t just build for clients, you understand them. You take time to learn their sector, their terminology, and the pressures they face.

  • Prior experience in public sector and regulated industries 

  • You are as comfortable in a room with operations managers and compliance leads as you are with engineers.

Leadership & Communication

  • Confident in leading technical discussions and client-facing workshops.

  • Skilled at accurate scoping and balancing commercial realities with technical delivery.

  • Supportive mentor with a collaborative mindset.

Commercial Awareness

  • Solid understanding of agency delivery models and commercial drivers.
    Ability to balance client needs, technical feasibility, and commercial realities.

  • Willingness to occasionally travel for client meetings or team workshops
    (if required).

  • Right to work in the UK.
